F.A.C.A. Ring Girl

"Where drawings are voted to the death and the streets run black with ink."

F.A.C.A. 4 is still a month or two away, so instead of fighters, the artists are creating ring girls to herald in the rounds. The cards have been left blank so that the girls can be placed in-between whatever rounds they are needed. There are quite a few submissions, and only 12 will be accepted, so go vote! Well, not yet, but when voting begins, go vote! (EDIT: Voting closed)

I created "Neptune Petunia," a little firecracker of a space cowgirl. As you can see, she heard a suspicious noise off-camera and drew her gun while posing with the card. Confidentially, she isn't just a ring girl - she's also an intergalactic bounty hunter, and she has it on good authority that one of the fighters is worth a few million bars of Latinum on Nebula-7. Let's hope she gets her man soon, her trigger finger gets a little itchy.

A Pirate and a Skater...

Mike Wieringo

Last week, the art world lost one of it's greats. Mike Wieringo aka "Ringo" passed away.

I never knew him personally, but I frequent an artist forum (www.drawingboard.org) that he also visited quite often. We all knew him as one of the good guys. Someone who was a professional, but not an ego. He was doing what he loved, and sharing his knowledge and kindness with so many artists of all levels of experience.

He was only 44 years old.

You can see his webpage here and read more: http://www.mikewieringo.com/

You can also go to the Drawing Board and see the tributes from those who's lives he touched: http://www.drawingboard.org/viewtopic.php?t=57681

Pink Poodle Strikes!

I haven't drawn The Pink Poodle in a dog's age (har har har.)

As you can see, her court ordered anger management courses had little effect.

Panthor's training - Day 1

A little more 80s nostalgia with a twist - Skeletor's (not yet) giant cat Panthor on his first day of training with Beast Man.

Thundercats Hoooooo!

A recent toy acquisition prompted me to draw Panthro from the Thundercats. I never collected these toys as a kid (it fell between my He-Man and Transformers phases of collecting), but I did enjoy the cartoon.

I do recall one particular issue I had with the Thundercats - they exhibited very little cat-like behavior (and absolutely no Thunder-like behavior.)

Sure, they looked like cats, but that was about it. Seriously, they weren't much more than He-Man and his pals dressed like cats. Or the musical "Cats" with less cat-like behavior and no show tunes...in space.

So here are some sketches of Thundercats acting like cats. More to come...

The Black Angus

Urban Vinyl design contest entry, using a blank bull/demon shaped template from bovinyl.ca

Here's a sketch of what he'd look like if I wasn't being held to the pre-existing template:

"They say that your beef,
it belongs on a bun.

They say that the West,
it was won with a gun.

Well lemme tell ya' pardner,
I say it weren't no fuss:

'Twas won by a man,
they called the Black Angus!"

...and here he is with ink and color (and a nifty new theme song!)
